Addlebrough.
This one has been on the To-do list since we moved here nearly five years ago! And today we finally did it. Any guests who venture over to Hawes will see this gorgeous flat-topped hill from Fleet Moss, proudly standing over Semerwater.
The walk itself is relatively easy. Like most hills in the Yorkshire Dales, there is a long steady climb to reach the hill before a short but very steep grassy climb to the summit.
The elevated position offers panoramic views of Wensleydale, Penhill and much further to the east you can see the northern slopes of the Cleveland Hills.
Addlebrough is a fascinating place, you can see why it was used as a Bronze Age settlement and a Roman camp, superb high position with good views all around. The views of Semerwater from the northern edge of the hill were simply wonderful. From here we sat on the grass and enjoyed a picnic before following the route back to the car.
This was a splendid, straightforward and thoroughly enjoyable 4.5 mile walk and one we will do again.
