Cracoe Fell & Rylstone Cross

This was a superb 10 mile circular walk starting from the lovely village of Linton and making our way to the hamlet of Thorpe, in the shadow of the magnificent and mysterious knoll of Elbolton Hill (more on this hill later!..) before climbing the steep ascent on to the moors where we enjoyed lunch and coffee break by the grouse hut.

We then made our way along the ridge on Cracoe Fell where we stopped to admire the War Memorial Obelisk and the fantastic far reaching views towards Pendle Hill, Malham Moor and Wharfedale, including the impressive Dales favourites; Buckden Pike and Great Whernside.

From the Memorial we continued along the ridge to the cross, where (contrary to the forecast) we got battered for 20 minutes by a fierce hailstorm and heavy rain. As we began to descend to Rylstone, we caught a glimpse of the remains of Norton Tower and then enjoyed the steady 3 mile walk back to Linton.
